Louisiana Purchase (1803) Bought from: France Price: $15 million What we got: 828,000 square miles — basically doubled the size of the U.S. Includes all or part of: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri, Iowa, Oklahoma, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, Minnesota. 👉 Cost about 3 cents an acre. Greatest land deal in history. Napoleon needed cash for wars, we got a continent. The US bougnt Alaska- 🐻‍❄️ 2. Alaska Purchase (1867) Bought from: Russia Price: $7.2 million People mocked it as “Seward’s Folly” and “Seward’s Icebox.” Then we found gold, oil, natural gas, fishing, military position… turns out it was a steal. 👉 About 2 cents an acre. The US bougnt Florida- 🌴 3. Florida (Adams–Onís Treaty, 1819) From: Spain Technically the U.S. didn’t hand Spain a suitcase of cash — we forgave $5 million in claims Americans had against Spain. Boom, Florida becomes U.S. territory. 🏜 4. Gadsden Purchase (1853) From: Mexico Price: $10 million Southern Arizona & New Mexico — bought mainly to build a southern railroad route. The US bought The Virgin Islands- 🏝 5. U.S. Virgin Islands (1917) From: Denmark Price: $25 million in gold Bought to keep Germany from grabbing them during WWI. Democrats only oppose the purchase of Greenland because they oppose everything Trump does… it’s absolute insanity.
