PROTEST OR RIOTING? — A BIBLICAL DISTINCTION
Peaceful protest can be lawful and biblical when it is orderly, non-violent, and respectful of authority.
Rioting is neither lawful nor righteous. Scripture draws that line clearly.
Romans 13:1 “Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.”
God ordains civil authority to restrain evil and maintain order. When people riot—by brawling, cursing officers, throwing objects, blocking law enforcement, or turning protests into chaos—they are not standing for justice. They are resisting God’s established order.
Rioting Is a Work of the Flesh
The Bible names this behavior plainly.
Galatians 5:20–21 “Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, s e d i t i o n s, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, r e v e l l i n g s, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.”
Sedition is not righteousness. It is rebellion.
And rebellion—no matter the cause—is sin.
1 Corinthians 14:33 “For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace…”
The Point of the Meme
This meme exists to correct confusion: Peaceful protest appeals to truth and conscience.
Rioting replaces truth with chaos.
Christians are called to obedience, not disorder.
No cause justifies sin.
No grievance sanctifies rebellion.
Truth never needs violence to speak.
