"AND HE BEARING HIS CROSS" "And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha:" (John 19:17) The Bible calls that cross His cross. That cross should have been our cross, but our Saviour made it His cross. The Lord Jesus was beaten, bruised, and bloodied by the vilest of men that Hell had to offer. Yet that cross He bore; He was bearing for them. The Messiah was betrayed by His own familiar friend and denied by another. Yet that cross He bore; He was bearing for them.I believe the greatest sorrow our Saviour bore that morning at Calvary was seeing the multitudes with His omnipotent eye, who want nothing to do with this One while wearily bearing that old, Rugged Cross to Golgotha, which was called the place of a skull. But lest we forget, that cross He bore; Yes, He was bearing for them! Paul writes in Galatians 3:13, "Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree::"Did Jesus, Who was God with skin on His face, shun or oppose being made a curse on His Cross for all? Well folks, allow me to shout a resounding NO to that question. Rather, He humbled Himself and was obedient. For we read those words found in Philippians 2:6-8: "Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross."Friends, in the bearing of His cross, Jesus Christ was offering to all His salvation, His safety, His shelter, and His security. The power and penalty of sin can no longer claim us when we come and take refuge and rest beneath His Cross He bore for us.
