Adam And Christ Romans 5:12, 15 - “Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned:… But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many.” Adam is the father of all the human race, and it is through Adam that we all inherited a fallen, sinful nature. Through Adam we all have the sentence of death upon us. Romans 3:23 “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;” and our text verse tells us that it was through Adam death has passed upon all men. Sin, disease, death, the frailties and failures of life, all come from the Bible truth that through Adam’s disobedience all were made sinners. But the very good news is that through the obedience of Christ many can be made righteous “by grace through faith”. And John 1:12 gives us the eternal promise “But as many as received Him, to them gave He power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His name:” Our bodies still carry the outward signs of a fallen race; and as Vance Havner said “our bifocals, bridges, and baldness bear witness” of this truth. Paul wrote in 2 Corinthians 4:16 “though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day”. He also reminded us in Romans 8:23 of what we fill each day, especially as we grow older, we “groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body”. In Adam we are hopelessly doomed and only death awaits. But in Christ there is great hope, and we wait for the blessed hope of being with Christ Jesus our Lord. Are you in Christ?
