What Is A Wicked Mind?
Proverbs 21:27
“The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind?”
Our title is a hard question to answer.
Our verse tells us that some would bring a sacrifice for sin, yet know all along they are going to remain in their sin.
Why would one bring a sacrifice to the LORD and do so with a wicked mind? Was their attempt just a show? For this day of grace, we know and believe Jesus Christ offered up Himself once and for all. No more does anyone bring a sacrifice to God (Hebrews 7:27). But how often do people pray unto God, or give an offering, or go through the motions of Christianity with a wicked mind? Does God hear those prayers? Does God accept that offering? We must understand that in our verse, the Bible here is speaking of the person who has no mental or heart intention to repent of their sin and turn to God, though they will pray unto God and bring a sacrifice. God through the prophet Amos told His people He would not smell their sacrifice, that He would not regard their peace offerings, and He would not hear their songs (Amos 5:21-23). Why? Because they did not repent and had no intentions of turning away from their worship of false gods.
Sin deceives and has the power to put a person in great bondage. Repentance and turning to Jesus Christ is the only way to freedom and peace.
John 8:34, 36
“Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin… If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.”
