Sin Is?1 John 3:4“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.”This verse gives us a Biblical definition that defines what sin is, “sin is the transgression of the law”. In 1 John 5:17 we find another Biblical definition of what sin is; “All unrighteousness is sin…”. James 4:17 says, “Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” Sin is the transgression of the law of God. All unrighteousness is sin. And to know to do good and not do that good is sin. Taking these Biblical truths about sin we can conclude that many in the world have lost their moral compass for life and much of our world lies in wickedness (1 John 5:19). This does not paint us a pretty picture of our present world. But I never find in the Bible where God ever wants sin and its results to be a pretty picture. I read, “But sin, that it might appear sin, working death in me by that which is good; that sin by the commandment might become exceeding sinful”(Romans 7:13). What shall we do? Jesus, the sacrificial Lamb of God, came into the world to take “away the sin of the world” (John 1:29). Jesus said, “if ye believe not that I am he, ye shall die in your sins” (John 8:24). 1 John 1:8-9 “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” The bad news is the truth that sin lies within all of us, all are sinners, and all are under the penalty of death. The good news is that only Jesus Christ can take away our sin and give us life.
