Young Woman Executed on Houston Bus While Commuting to Work
Innocent 25-Year-Old Shot in Head as Teens Open Fire in Broad Daylight, Police Say
A routine ride to work turned into a deadly ambush when a 25-year-old woman was shot in the head and killed on a METRO bus in west Houston, authorities say. The victim, identified by family as Caitlin Jacobi Stup, was on her way to her job at a local restaurant when gunfire erupted in the middle of the afternoon.
Houston police say two teenage males began arguing on the bus near Richmond Avenue and Walnut Bend before at least one pulled a gun and opened fire. “She had nothing to do with this,” an investigator said. “She was simply going to work when a bullet struck her in the head.”
Witnesses told officers the bus driver immediately stopped, threw the doors open, and yelled, “Everybody off the bus now!” as panicked passengers rushed into the street. A 16-year-old male was also shot but survived after being taken to the hospital, police say.
Detectives identified 17-year-old Brayden Smith as the suspected shooter and charged him with murder. Another teen, 18-year-old Patrick Scott, faces a weapons charge and was already out on bond for aggravated robbery, according to court records.
“This was an execution of an innocent woman on public transit,” a Crime Stoppers representative said, calling the case a grim warning about repeat violent offenders on Houston’s streets.
