Faith As A Grain Of Mustard SeedLuke 17:5-6“And the apostles said unto the Lord, Increase our faith. And the Lord said, If ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye might say unto this sycamine tree, Be thou plucked up by the root, and be thou planted in the sea; and it should obey you.”It was a sincere request of the disciples to ask the Lord to increase their faith. He had been teaching them some very difficult lessons about the hypocrisy of the Pharisees, the parable of the rich man and Lazarus and eternity, sin and forgiveness, and making sure you do not become a stumbling block causing others to stumble. He stated “if ye had faith as a grain of mustard seed”. A mustard seed, or any seed, carries life in it. A mustard seed is one of the smallest of seeds, but still it carries life. Once that seed is planted, it has the potential of bringing forth much fruit. The lesson here is this; it is not so much about the amount or size of our faith that matters but the object of our faith. When a farmer plants a seed he has faith that the seed will bring forth a harvest. The miracle isn’t in the size of the seed, but the power of the seed to give life. Where do you rest your faith? A better question is, in whom do you rest your faith? God is the giver of life, faith in God has great life giving potential. Faith in the risen Saviour Jesus Christ gives eternal life. Do not worry about how much faith you have, but rather make sure your faith is in the One who has the power to impart life.
