A Strategic Development Completing the “Ring of Fire”
Written By: Intelsky
After securing the western, southern, and central fronts, Iran has now turned, in this new NOTAM cycle, toward the “eastern front” (the borders with Afghanistan and Pakistan) and the “gateway to the ocean.”
📌Securing the “Eastern Flank”: Zahedan and Zabol (Afghan–Pakistani border)
A new series of NOTAMs has been issued (A0167/26, A0168/26, A0170/26).
- Locations: Coordinates (30°50′N 61°30′E and 29°25′N 60°50′E) around Zabol, Zahedan, and Saravan.
- Significance: These border regions are normally weakly covered.
Activating air defenses there now indicates Iranian concern over:
- Drone or special forces infiltration through the eastern borders.
- The possible use of Pakistani or Afghan airspace by U.S. bombers to launch a “flanking” strike that bypasses Iran’s western-oriented defenses.
📌The Indian Ocean Gateway: Chabahar
NOTAM A0172/26 has been issued.
- Location: Coordinates (25°20′N 60°50′E) over the port of Chabahar.
- Strategic importance: Chabahar is Iran’s only direct outlet to the Indian Ocean, outside the Strait of Hormuz.
- Analysis: The fortification of Chabahar points to planning for a “Gulf closure” scenario.
If the Strait of Hormuz is shut, Chabahar becomes Iran’s sole maritime artery for trade.
Securing it now is therefore essential to maintaining an alternative supply line during wartime.
📌The Eastern Desert Base: Birjand
NOTAM A0166/26 has been issued.
- Location: Coordinates (32°15′N 59°20′E) near Birjand.
- Analysis: The area hosts air bases and early-warning radar covering the vast Lut Desert, designed to prevent deep aerial penetration from the east toward Iran’s central and nuclear facilities.
📌A Tightening Grip on Airspace (Additional Closures)
- NOTAMs A0175/26 and A0176/26: Closure of additional international air corridors (G669 and L124).
- Analysis: G669 is a major east–west transit route.
Closing it effectively halts overflight traffic across Iran, depriving Tehran of transit revenues, but ensuring a “clean sky” in which air defenses can engage any target without hesitation.
📌Geopolitical Summary
With this update, Iran has completed a 360-degree defensive perimeter:
- West: against Israel and the U.S. via Iraq
- North / Center: the capital and nuclear infrastructure
- South: oil facilities and the Gulf
- East (new): protection against aerial flanking and securing the ocean outlet
Iran is now encircled by overlapping kill zones.
There is no longer a safe side or open flank.
The preparations are complete.
The country is now in a posture of waiting for the first shot.
