A Night Of Good Sleep
Psalms 3:5
“I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”
Psalms 4:8
“I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Proverbs 3:24
“When thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.”
Some people struggle with sleep. I can relate to that for I am what you would call a light sleeper. The least little noise can wake me up. Doctors say that those who cannot sleep suffer from insomnia. Vance Havner wrote that “the word insomnia sounds demonic”. In these verses we find some truths that I hope will help any of us to sleep better.
First, it is the LORD who sustains us through the night. We can rest our faith in the truth that when we are sleeping, God is using that sleep to refresh and revive us physically and mentally.
Second, it is the LORD in whom we look to for peace and safety while we sleep. A clear conscious is a must for good sleep and a true, clear conscious can only come through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Finally, walking with the LORD in wisdom leads to sleep that is sweet. Living for self and walking in the ways of the world is not a good combination for good sleep.
The Bible is clear; God desires for His people to sleep well. Will we trust Him for good sleep?
