Similar. Lysenko was the "expert" within the early Soviet regime. Whatever he said was their "overwhelming consensus". Other scientists who disagreed were persecuted. In reality, he was a pretty rubbish scientist but great at following the party line.Result , contributed hugely to the causes of famine and starvation in the new Soviet Russia .The term "Lysenko famine" refers to famines, particularly the Great Chinese Famine and those in the Soviet Union, exacerbated by the disastrous agricultural policies of Soviet agronomist Trofim Lysenko, who promoted pseudoscientific methods like close planting and deep plowing, rejecting established genetics for Lamarckian inheritance, leading to widespread crop failures and starvation.
