Romans 6:16 Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?SIN UNTO DEATH: Yes—sin is not something you merely commit; it is something you can yield yourself to. When you do, that sin becomes your master. And for some, that sin becomes a sin unto death. That sin does not look the same in every life.It is not always the outward sins that shock the public conscience—adultery, murder, or sexual perversion. Sometimes it is quieter, more respectable, and far more deadly. It can be the sin of a Christian who walks away from God.It can be the sin of a believer who becomes unthankful, critical, and hardened toward God and His church. It can be the sin of one who is abusive in spirit, harsh with words, and careless with others. It can be the sin of a selfish Christian who refuses to support God’s work, yet freely spends God-given resources on everything but God.Often, it is not one sin alone, but a pattern—a life marked by being uncaring, unsupportive, unloving, wasteful, lazy, bitter, and resentful toward God, the church, and even family and friends. If that describes you, Scripture does not call that spiritual maturity. It calls it death. When there is no spiritual life, the Bible defines the condition plainly: the dead. Not physically dead—but spiritually lifeless. And eternity is far too long to remain in that condition.
