God Can Clean Up Anyone’s Tongue
Proverbs 18:7 “A fool's mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.”
James 3:10 “Out of the same mouth proceedeth blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”
Too often I have heard some pretty nasty words come forth from the tongue of those who say they are Christians. There is gossip, and cursing, and swearing, and perverted jokes. These would just be a few examples. One’s tongue can be changed! In 2 Corinthians 5:17 we are taught that the one who is saved is a new creature in Christ and daily God is seeking to do away with the old nature and replace it with a new nature in the likeness of Jesus Christ. Part of the new nature is to have a new vocabulary. The Christian should use their words to encourage. We should use our words to pray. James lets us know that out of the same mouth both blessing and cursing should not be. Our verse in Proverbs lets us know one’s words can be destructive to one’s own self and they can be a snare to one’s own soul. What kind of representation of Christ does it give when one who claims to be a Christian, swears, curses, and gossips about others?
“My brethren, these things ought not so to be.”
Do you need God to clean up your tongue?
