The Hope Of A Man
Proverbs 11:7 “When a wicked man dieth, his expectation shall perish: and the hope of unjust men perisheth.”
The words “wicked” and “unjust” in this verse describe the person who is apart from God, who is wrong and guilty in his sin, and through his rejection of God he is an idolater. Sounds like such a person has absolutely no hope. But our verse gives concrete proof that as long as that man is living he has “his expectation” and “hope”. These words describe for us God’s purpose and what He would like to do with and through that man. In Jeremiah 29:11 God says to a very wayward people, “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” God is saying to them, though you are so far from me in the way you are living and your idol worship, I still have in my heart for you a hope and a future. What a gracious God! No one living is without hope and without a purpose in life. That purpose begins with a relationship and fellowship with God. For the most wicked and vilest of sinners, as long as he is living, there is hope. Ecclesiastes 9:4 says, “For to him that is joined to all the living there is hope: for a living dog is better than a dead lion.”
Take a breath. That breath means you are alive. That means God has a purpose for your life, you have hope. Nothing is more rewarding in life than to know you have not only found God’s purpose for your life, but you are living it.
