Only By Grace Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.”I believe it is human nature that causes a person to believe that if they do enough good works in the name of Jesus Christ that they will be ok when they die. That if they are good people that somehow and one day God will let them go to heaven. Ephesians 2:8 and 9 tells us plainly that salvation is “not of works”. Titus 3:5-7 states that salvation is; “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour; That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.”It is the mercy of God that puts the wheels of God’s grace into motion to work God’s gift of salvation in the heart of an individual. I believe that all a person needs to do is to receive by faith, “the gift of God” to be saved. The work of repentance and remission of sin is an act that is “by grace through faith”. All the work that was needed was completed by Jesus Christ. Romans 4:5 says, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness.” Those of us who rest our faith in the assurance that we are saved by God’s grace can never boast that it is anything we have done to merit being saved. Jesus Christ paid the penalty of sin in full when He died on the cross and shed His blood. Romans 5:9 “Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.” All our works for Jesus Christ should only be an expression of our love for Him and appreciation for the goodness of God that leads us to repentance (Romans 2:4). Our Saviour is worthy of our praise and adoration!! For He came into the world, born of a virgin, died on an old rugged cross, shedding His blood, was buried but rose again. All that we might be forgiven and be born again! Worship Him!! For He alone is worthy!
