Strangers And Pilgrims1 Peter 2:11 “Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul;”Here in this verse the Christian is described as a stranger and a pilgrim. We are reminded of why we do not feel we “fit in” or “feel at home” with this world. As a stranger we are living in a foreign world, a world that does not seem right to us. This feeling is the work of the Holy Spirit. Heaven is our place of permanent dwelling. We pass through this world as pilgrims, we are only here temporarily. Paul used these same two words describing some before him that also died in faith in Hebrews 11:13. “These all died in faith, not having received the promises, but having seen them afar off, and were persuaded of them, and embraced them, and confessed that they were strangers and pilgrims on the earth.” As a Christian, our journey here is a journey of faith. Each day, each step is one of faith in God. I am confident that one day my journey here on earth will end and when it does I will have reached my home in Heaven. For now, may all who name the name of Christ find contentment being a stranger and pilgrim in this world. With the Holy Spirit as our helper may we abstain from fleshly lusts that war against our soul.
