I know this will come as a great shock to many of you, but not everything on the internet is true. There’s been a lot of misinformation circulating recently claiming that single fluorinated carbon compounds are PFAS “forever chemicals” (Spoiler Alert: They are not). Here are the facts: 📌 Single fluorinated carbons (SFCs) are NOT PFAS. They are also NOT “forever chemicals”. The very definition of PFAS, which was established within the U.S. government through a public rulemaking in years past, specifically does not include SFCs. The science is also extremely straightforward that these are not “forever chemicals”. 📌 Extensive scientific evidence and public input demonstrates molecules with only one fluorinated carbon generally lack the persistence and bioaccumulation properties that are commonly associated with “forever chemicals”. 📌 SFCs are NOT the same as those used to fluoridate drinking water and would have NO fluoridation uses. 📌 Beyond the United States, the safety of these SFCs has also been validated by regulatory agencies worldwide, including in the European Union, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, Brazil, Argentina, New Zealand, and South Korea. We must ALWAYS rely on gold-standard scientific reviews. ANY EPA-approved product in the marketplace MUST be EXTENSIVELY evaluated and found to post NO human health risks of concern when used as directed.
