#news Remember when a woman got a harsher punishment than convicted r*pist because she called him a disgraceful pig?

A young German woman got a stiffer penalty than a gang r*pist for voicing her disgust at him r*ping a teenage girl.
The case is back in the spotlight after a German official claimed there was no censorship in Europe after Vice President JD Vance warned the EU not to fine X because Musk won't censor speech.

That's when Under Secretary of State Sarah B. Rogers quoted the post with the article about the 2024 ruling, which prioritized defamation charges over the r*pist's assault on a teenage girl.
The incident traces back to September 2020, when nine young males – all under 20 – gang-r*ped a 15-year-old girl in the bushes of a Hamburg city park over several hours.
The attack, which drew widespread condemnation for its savagery, resulted in suspended sentences for eight of the suspects, meaning no actual prison time.
During the trial, presiding Judge Anne Meier-Goering talked about the defendants' shocking lack of remorse, with one asking in court, "What man doesn’t want that?"
Maja R., a 20-year-old Hamburg resident, learned of the rapists' identities after they were leaked on Snapchat.

She fired off a WhatsApp message to the offender, branding him a "disgraceful r*pist pig" and a "disgusting freak."
Her full text read: "Aren’t you ashamed when you look in the mirror? You cannot go anywhere without getting kicked in the face. Let’s hope you are just locked away."

Under Germany's stringent defamation statutes – laws so severe they can put people in jail for calling someone an "idiot" – Maja's words were deemed criminal.
In June 2024, a Hamburg court convicted her of insult and sentenced her to jail, a harsher outcome than the rapist's suspended term.
