THE TREE OF LIFE Within the garden of God was a special tree which God planted for man’s benefit. God called it the “tree of life.” We learn from Genesis 3:22 that this tree could give eternal life to those who partook of it: “. . . lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and live for ever.” Adam could have received eternal life by taking and eating of the tree of life. Eternal life was available no other way. Had he bowed before the tree and prayed, nothing would have happened. Had he cut a branch from the tree and kept it on his mantle, nothing would have happened. A sketch or painting of the tree in his home wouldn’t have saved him. An in-depth study of the tree would have been useless. Adam could have even ran around Eden singing about the tree and talking about it, but he would have gained no eternal life. Only by taking and eating of the tree could man receive this free gift of God. Friend, you can sing about Jesus, and still go to hell. You can talk about Jesus and even preach about Jesus, and still go to hell. A Jesus necklace or bracelet may impress some people, but that won’t save you. A Jesus statue in your home or car will not help you. You must become a partaker of his divine nature if you are to become his child. “But as many as RECEIVED him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name.” (John 1:12)
