THE "ICE AGE" AND THE BIBLE Someone asked if we believe in an "ice age" and if the Bible offers an explanation. If the Bible offers an explanation for an ice age, it will be found in the context of the Genesis flood. According to Genesis 7:11, there were two major factors that brought about the global flooding of the earth in Noah's day: (1) "all the fountains of the great deep" were "broken up" and (2) "the windows of heaven were opened." The windows of heaven being opened would have provided the rain that fell from above, which would have been a lot, since there was a water canopy above (Gen. 1:6-7) that basically "greenhoused" the earth from direct sunlight before there was any rain, with all moisture coming up as a mist from the ground (Gen. 2:6). Then we have the fountains of the great deep being broken up, and this is where it gets wild. Looking similar to stitches on a baseball, there are over 40,000 miles of ridges or risen "scars" on the surface of the earth. Something obviously put them there. It might very well be that these ridges were caused by the fountains of subterranean water being "broken up" and shooting into the sky. If so, this could have caused a very cataclysmic chain reaction of events. Along with the water shooting skyward would have also been mud and chunks of dirt and rock. Probably most of this fell back to the earth, but some could have even gone into orbit. If any of this matter flew into orbit, it could have formed the asteroids and comets that scientists believe must have came from some "exploding planet" far away . . . when it all actually came from the planet on which they live and do their research (Deu. 30:11-14!!).That which didn't get spewed into orbit, but rather fell back to the earth, also left, shall we say, a LASTING IMPRESSION. First of all, the water itself can explain the entire fossil record and the so-called "geological column" where the simplest life forms are found at the bottom of the "column" and the more advanced life forms are found at the top. Rather than proving gradual evolution of life through millions of years, the evidence probably just shows how the dumbest animals died first in the flood while the smartest men and animals lasted the longest . . . all in less than a year, probably less than a month. Much of this subterranean water shooting into the sky would have frozen and fallen back to the earth in massive measure and very rapidly, thus creating the "ice age" that all the global warmers harp about and explaining such things as why woolly mammoths have been found frozen stiff, standing upright, with green vegetation in their stomachs. Naturally, all of this would bring an end to the "prehistoric world," as such enormous creatures (dinosaurs included) would not have been able to live with the lower oxygen levels of the new world. This would appear thousands of years later as an "ice age," when it was really just an ice EVENT in certain regions. As always, the "scientific community" overreacts and gets the whole thing wrong.
