QUESTION EVERYTHING & EVERYONE
"And it shall come to pass, when your children shall say unto you, What mean ye by this service?" (Exo. 12:26)
"And when thy son asketh thee in time to come, saying, What mean the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded you?" (Deu. 6:20)
"That this may be a sign among you, that when your children ask their fathers in time to come, saying, What mean ye by these stones?" (Jsh. 4:6)
Those three verses tell us that children will naturally ask questions. They are GROWING, and part of growing is ASKING and LEARNING. They'll ask why the sky is blue, why kitties can't fly, why snow is cold, and why can't it be summer all the time? One little girl ask her mother, "What happens to cars when they get old and die?" The mother replied, "Your father buys them."
Children are growing people, not just physically, but also mentally, so they ask questions. Then as they grow older the questions slow down and almost stop altogether. WHY? They were taught by society to just conform and accept things as they are and to STOP ASKING QUESTIONS. Folks, that's when we STOP GROWING.
In addition to conforming to society, we also lose our humility and become too proud to ask questions, even privately. We just pretend that we either already know or that it's not that important anyway. Either way, we stop growing when we stop asking.
As long as Satan is the father of lies and the god of this world, it would be wise to believe nothing as it is presented without asking questions and proving all things (I Ths. 5:21). But, as we are told in Jeremiah 9:3, people are not valiant for the truth, so they tend to believe what they are told, or at least much of what they are told. Others claim to believe what they are told, even if they don't believe it, just so they can pretend to have an excuse for their ignorance.
There are certainly many skeptics around, but most of them have been raised up by the devil to raise doubt about things of which there should be no doubt (the existence of God, the infallibility of scripture, etc.). But there are not enough righteous skeptics, people who do believe in God and the Bible, but have many questions regarding man's many interpretations and abuses of God and the Bible. If a man is really a truth seeker who wants to keep growing, then he won't accept things as they are, and he won't waste his time asking stupid questions about God's existence or the Bible's legitimacy. No, he will cut right to the chase and deal with real issues by asking some real common sense questions.
When people don't ask questions, it's because they don't want answers. Answers mean responsibility, and folks don't want it. Plus, they've been trained by the devil to conform and accept things as they are and to not rock the boat. Satan's position is "I'm steering this ship. You just sit back and enjoy the ride." So people have stopped thinking and asking. You point out a truth, and someone says, "I've never thought about that." Why not? THEY STOPPED THINKING. Why? Because the devil's work is much easier if people just don't think.
That's why Satan has seen to it that we have an abundance of AMUSEMENTS. To "muse" is to "think," so to "a-muse" is not NOT think, just like a "theist" believes in God, but an "a-theist" says there is NO God. Television and funny pages weren't enough, so Satan put a "smart" phone in everyone's hand, a device that can be with you and amuse you at all times. The smarter the phone, the dumber the user. Instead of reading a good magazine article or the Bible in the waiting room, folks just play Candy Crush or they take a quiz to see what kind of potato they are. That stuff is not just for wasting time; it's for WASTING MINDS and stopping growth. It's for sedating people so that Satan can complete his plans.
If we are to be converted and become as "little children" (Mat. 18:3), then we ought to keep asking questions and keep growing until the day we reach heaven's shore. After all, we are called "little children" about a dozen times in the New Testament. Children ask questions.
We could learn a great deal by asking questions like, "Why are most politicians rich?" and "Why does no one seem to care about our 36 trillion dollar national debt?" I'd like to know why the Epstein list still hasn't been released. Much could be learned by asking some questions regarding the direction of our nation and those who were supposed to be "leading" us for the past several decades. But the questions and the growth that matters most concerns God and his words and our faith and practice regarding God and his words. Have you ever asked . . .
Why do faith healers never visit hospitals?
Why are there no Bible colleges in the Bible? Isn't that somewhat of an oxymoron?
Why wasn't the dying thief baptized?
Why does only one of Paul's epistles say anything about speaking in tongues?
Why did Jesus and the New Testament writers never quote from the Apocrypha?
Why are there no Popes in the Bible, and why are the only nuns a man and a Hebrew letter?
Why are there no mega churches in the Bible?
Why are there no children's ministries in the Bible?
Why are there no church buildings in the Bible?
Why does the New Testament not contain an actual church worship service?
Why do we have Christian holidays when there are none in the Bible?
Why so much emphasis on prayer altars when there are none in the New Testament church?
Why do so many believe that we aren't supposed to judge?
Why does almost everyone believe that God loves everyone?
Not all questions need to be skeptical in nature. We should also ask questions about our beliefs and practices, such as . . .
Why do we believe so strongly in the King James Bible?
Why is Jesus the only way?
How can God be three, yet only one?
Why does God allow suffering?
What is a dispensation, and why does it matter?
Why didn't God put pictures in the Bible?
Why aren't the signs and miracles still in effect today?
Why are there no women preachers in the Bible?
Which church is the true church, or is there a true church?
Why is Israel so special?
How can Jesus be both God and the Son of God?
When we stop asking, we stop growing. When we stop growing, we die spiritually, and that's what the devil wants. Believe it or not, that's what many fundamentalist leaders want. Stop growing and just do what you're told. Be a nice little religious robot. Come and give and win souls so we can keep up the attendance and giving. It's all about the numbers, so do your part in keeping the numbers up. Don't ask questions; just stay busy with the program. That's fundamentalism. That's Laodicea, and it makes God sick (Rev. 3:14-22).
According to the Lord Jesus, we should be ASKING, SEEKING and KNOCKING (Mat. 7:7), not following like blind little minions. You don't have to be a Roman Catholic or a leftist Democrat to be a blind minion. You can be an independent, KJV Baptist minion as well. Just blindly follow your leaders, and you'll keep the devil happy. Whether you're nine or ninety, you're not yet in heaven, so there's more growing to do. Keep asking, keep learning, and keep growing and bearing fruit for the glory of God.
