What Constrains You?
2 Corinthians 5:14-15
“For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead: And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.”
The word “constraineth” in verse 14 means to hold together, to compress together, to hold completely. What holds the Christian together? The answer is given in our text, it is the love of Christ. Note that the love of Christ that holds the Christian together is what also motivates him or her to live “unto Him which died for them, and rose again”. There are too many in the church living “unto themselves”. We need to allow the love of Christ to constrain us, that we would no longer live unto ourselves but unto Christ. Too often when I was a pastor I heard the question asked, “What does your church have to offer me?” When one is constrained by the love of Christ, they are also motivated by Christ love to serve others. In conclusion, if you are one of those who feel that the church is solely there to serve and meet your needs then you are constrained by your own selfish desires, not the love of Christ. When you meet a person who all they want to do in life is live unto Christ and serve Him by serving others, then you have met a person who is constrained by the love of Jesus Christ.
