The CurseRomans 8:22-23 “For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain together until now. And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body.”I remember back a few years ago sitting in a bee keepers association meeting and listening to a speech about the evils of varroa mites. Our guest speaker asked, “Does anyone know why we have so much trouble with varroa mites?”I wanted to stand up and say, “It is because of the curse!” Our verses in Romans is reminding us of the ongoing reality that for now, the earth and all that lives within it is groaning together under the curse. All of creation groans! Even the Christian groans within! For now the curse given by God because of man’s original sin remains and we are under bondage to it. Read Genesis chapter 3 and the details of the curse are given. One day it will be lifted and all creation will be in perfect peace (Read Isaiah 11). Until then men will put up with thorns and thistles and will live by the sweat of his brow. Until then women will endure the sorrow of multiplied conception and child bearing issues within her body that only a woman suffers. Until then, there will be no peaceful harmony in the world of creation. Until then we see, experience, and feel the pain and sorrow of death. One day the truth of Revelation 22:3-4 will become a reality, “And there shall be no more curse: but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it; and his servants shall serve him: And they shall see his face; and his name shall be in their foreheads.” The curse remains, but that does not mean we cannot currently live without any peace within our heart. For those of who are saved the promise in Romans 8:35-39 remains. Nothing, not even the curse can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
