AK HouchenI posted the following in the comment section of this Facebook article. States and cities can act as economic laboratories, testing different ways to run government and tax the people. And people are free to “vote with their feet” and leave when shiat goes south. There will always be people who think they’re smart enough to make socialism and “free stuff” work. Socialism may work for awhile among a small population of like minded people with shared values, goals and a unified agreement on the role of government. Beyond that socialism doesn’t scale well. The bigger the population the more government force is needed to maintain it. People with different values, work ethics and view of what government is cannot peacefully exist under a powerful centralized government. It’s like a gun. Some people will want to use it to protect their home, their property, their families and themselves. Others will want to use it to control or even rob their neighbors. It’s the same gun, just used differently depending on who’s holding it. Smaller government is best, but if people in America want socialism, I say go for it, but only on a city or state level. Socialism eventually depends on walls. You can’t wall off a city or state, but you can propose economic punishment for people trying to leave and taking their money with them. Expect that proposal to be presented in NYC soon.
