The sin you r e f u s e to forsake is your p r i c e of betrayal — your own thirty pieces of silver.⸻1. Scripture FoundationMatthew 26:14–16 (KJV)Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests,And said unto them, What will ye g i v e me, and I will deliver him unto you?And they covenanted with him for t h i r t y pieces of silver. And from that time he s o u g h t opportunity to betray him.Reflection: What Is Your “Thirty Pieces of Silver”?Judas s o l d his loyalty to Christ for silver — a temporary reward that bought him e v e r l a s t i n g regret. But before we condemn him, we must ask: what do we trade our obedience for? • Is it c o m f o r t in our sin that keeps us in secret sins? • Is it p r i d e that stops us from admitting our sinfulness? • Is it l u s t, greed, or bitterness that we hold onto instead of surrendering to God?Every sin we r e f u s e to release becomes our own thirty pieces of silver — the price of our betrayal.⸻The Deceptive Value of SinSin always o f f e r s something that seems valuable — pleasure, power, recognition, or control.Yet like Judas’s silver, it loses its shine the moment we see its true cost.“For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?” — Matthew 16:26 (KJV)Our thirty pieces of silver may glitter for a season, but it always leads to emptiness.⸻4. Forsaking the Silver: The Call to RepentanceChrist calls us not merely to feel r e g r e t for sin, but to repent and forsake it. If you ‘only’ f e e l regret then you’ve never repented.Repentance is n o t simply turning from sin — it’s turning to Jesus, who alone can cleanse and restore. Many will turn from sin, but never turn to Jesus. It’s common to stop and start something different in your life (Stop smoking, Stop drinking, Stop cursing, Stop Porn, etc.) but stopping is just part of repentance. When you turn to Jesus, then you can stop those bad habits, but stopping bad habits without turning to Jesus will n e v e r equate to Repentance.____Let the bag of silver fall from your hands. There is no sin worth holding if it costs you your relationship with Jesus. Judas l o s t his souls to gain his 30 pieces of silver.⸻Prayer of SurrenderLord Jesus,Reveal to me the sin I have r e f u s e d to forsake. (Most reading already know)Show me the places where I have b e t r a y e d You for fleeting gain. (again, most reading already know).Break the power of my s e c r e t idols that hold dear to my heart.Teach me to treasure You above all else — for You alone are worth more than all the silver and gold in this world.Amen.⸻Life Application • Identify those “pieces of silver” — a sin, habit, or compromise — that you’ve justified. • Bring it before God in prayer and repentance. • Replace that desire with a spiritual practice (worship, Scripture reading, serving others). • Remember: Freedom b e g i n s where s u r r e n d e r starts.
