Mamdani and Sliwa are on the ballot twice because both received endorsements from two different parties.
In New York’s fusion voting system, Each party line is treated as a SEPARATE column on the ballot. It’s treated as a SEPARATE VOTE.
- Filling in the bubble for Mamdani under the Democratic line = 1 vote for Mamdani.
- Filling in the bubble for Mamdani under the Working Families line = another 1 vote for Mamdani.
In a nutshell, this means one voter can vote TWICE for the Mamdani or Sliwa, essentially giving Cuomo virtually NO CHANCE. I did not know this.
