Fruits Of RepentanceMatthew 3:7-8 “But when he saw many of the Pharisees and Sadducees come to his baptism, he said unto them, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? Bring forth therefore fruits meet for repentance:”I wonder how a John the Baptist style of preacher would be accepted today? His preaching style and choice of dress attire would most certainly raise the eyebrows of the general public and the elite church members. I wonder how it would go over if a person who came forward to be baptized had to first show the fruits of a repentant heart? Today we have several nights of preaching and call it a revival meeting. But did revival take place? Where are the fruits of repentance? In our text, John the Baptist’s statement was directed at the Pharisees and Sadducees who had come to his baptism. He called them a generation of vipers! He asked if anyone had been warned to flee from the wrath that is to come! I’m sure his statements would have made the YouTube channels and Instagram accounts of all the critics. We live in a very strange day. Churches are judged by the size of their membership rolls instead of their likeness to Christ. We read in Acts 11:26, “And the disciples were called Christians…” The fact that these disciples were called Christians by those outside the church, instead of them claiming to be a Christian lets us know there was fruits of repentance in their life. The truth of repentance has not changed, it is still a change of mind, heart, and action while you come to God. If you had to show forth for your own self, your own fruits of repentance that you have been born again what would they be?
