"THE LORD'S LOVINGKINDNESS"
"Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them." (Psalm 17:7)
Consider the kindness of our Lord. The Bible calls it marvellous! The Scriptures tell us it is loving! To be sure, God's lovingkindness toward you and I is both splendid and sweet.
His lovingkindness is UNEQUALED. No young mother ever loved her newborn babe the way our Heavenly Father loves all of His children who have been born of the Spirit. It is certainly a love to behold as I John 3:1 reminds us, "Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not."
Not only is His lovingkindness UNEQUALED. it is also UNENDING. Mark it down with capital letters, our Lord's lovingkindness is eternal. The prophet warned a disobedient Israel that though God's wrath was temporary, yet, His kindness toward them remained timeless when he declared, "In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with EVERLASTING KINDNESS will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer." (Isaiah 54:8) (caps mine)
UNEQUALED kindness? Yes! UNENDING kindness? Amen! But let's never forget: His lovingkindness is UNQUEASTIONABLE. The Great God of Heaven leaves no doubt nor confusion about the offer of His lovingkindness toward a lost and dying world. The Psalmist cried, "Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness," AND SHEW US HE DID when He gave us a picture of His "marvellous lovingkindness" on that middle cross at Calvary! His broken heart, yet beating with lovingkindness, watched as His dear Son was battered, bruised, and bloodied while bearing our sins.
There's no GREATER portrait of lovingkindness that adorns the most famous art galleries of the world than the one God painted concerning His Son hanging on a tree atop that lonely hill of Golgotha. He endorsed that picture with the promise of His own blood when He said, "GREATER love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends." (John 15:13) (caps mine)
Friends, is that not wonderful and "marvellous lovingkindness" that He hath shown? Yes, it is indeed wonderful!
