“Consider Him” — Strength for the Weary Mind
Hebrews 12:3 “For c o n s i d e r him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.”
I. The Command — “C o n s i d e r Him”
Definition: To “c o n s i d e r” means to fix the mind upon, to weigh carefully, and to meditate upon Christ’s example.
Hebrews 3:1 — “Wherefore, holy brethren, partakers of the heavenly calling, consider the Apostle and High Priest of our profession, Christ Jesus.”
When weariness sets in, the cure is not to look inward or around — but upward.
Christ is the pattern for the believer’s endurance.
II. The Conflict — “That Endured Such Contradiction of Sinners”
Christ faced open hostility, mockery, false accusation, and betrayal.
Isaiah 53:3 — “He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief…”
Matthew 27:39–43 — The crowd reviled Him even as He hung on the Cross.
Yet He did not retaliate.
1 Peter 2:23 — “Who, when he was reviled, reviled not again; when he suffered, he threatened not…”
His endurance was perfect submission to the Father’s will.
III. The Caution — “Lest Ye Be Wearied and Faint in Your Minds”
Weariness begins in the mind before it shows in the body.
Galatians 6:9 — “And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
The devil attacks through discouragement, but remembering Christ’s sufferings renews our courage.
Isaiah 40:31 — “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength…”
IV. The Cure — “Looking Unto Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2)
The secret to enduring contradiction is continual focus on Christ’s victory.
Philippians 2:8–9 — “He humbled himself… Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him.”
When the believer “considers Him,” faith is strengthened, purpose is renewed, and hope is revived.
Conclusion
When life’s opposition presses in and the heart grows tired, consider Him — the Savior who endured all sin’s contradiction yet never fainted in His mission.
To fix our minds on Christ is to find rest for our weary souls.
Matthew 11:28–29 — “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest…”
