The Abrams Explorer was a one-of-a-kind American aerial survey aircraft built in 1937 by Talbert Abrams’ company for precision mapping and photography. It featured a pusher-propeller design, leaving its fully glazed nose unobstructed for cameras, and had twin tail booms with a sleek, teardrop fuselage for maximum visibility. Powered by a 500-hp Ranger V-12 engine, it reached about 230 mph and could fly roughly 1,000 miles.Used by the Abrams Aerial Survey Corporation, it pioneered stabilized aerial photography and became a landmark in aerial cartography. The sole surviving aircraft, NX238Y, is preserved at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, USA.
