Fact check me on this. But this is what’s happening.
Let’s talk about this government shutdown like it’s a school group project because that’s basically what it is.
Imagine there’s a group of five students (Congress), and they’re supposed to turn in a big assignment (the budget) so the school (the government) keeps running. One student is the team leader (President Trump), and the other four are split into two groups: two want to finish the project and turn it in, and two keep saying “Nope, not unless we change the whole thing.”
Now here’s the twist: the two who keep saying “no” are blaming the team leader for the project not getting done. Even though he’s saying, “I’m ready to sign it, just pass it to me,” they keep voting against it and then turning around and saying, “He could end this anytime!”
That’s what’s happening right now.
President Trump has said he’ll sign the bill to reopen the government. Republicans passed it. But Democrats in Congress keep voting no because they want to add things like more healthcare spending, climate rules, or immigration changes. They’re holding out for their wishlist, and then blaming Trump for not giving in.
They say “one man could end this,” but that’s not how our government works. Congress has to pass the bill first. The President can’t just wave a wand and make it happen. It’s like blaming the team leader for not turning in the project when you’re the one refusing to finish your part.
So why do they do it? Because it sounds good in the media. It’s easier to say “Trump shut down the government” than to admit “We’re blocking bills we don’t like, even if they’d reopen everything.” It’s a messaging trick. They want voters to blame Trump, even though they’re the ones voting no.
Bottom line: If Democrats really wanted the government open, they’d vote yes. Instead, they’re using the shutdown as leverage and blaming the guy who’s ready to sign the bill they keep rejecting.
