Romans 12:2 states: "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God."
This verse emphasizes a significant distinction between transformation (believer) and mere behavioral changes that are known by those who are only religious.
Transformation vs. Behavioral Changes
Transformation: Internal Process: Transformation refers to a profound, inner change that is brought about by the renewing of the mind. This indicates that true change begins within—altering one's thoughts, values, and perspectives to align more closely with God's will.
Spiritual Renewal: This renewal involves a spiritual awakening and a reorientation of one's priorities and motivations. It’s not just about changing actions but changing the very essence of who a person is.
Relationship with God: Transformation is rooted in a deeper relationship with God. As believers engage with His Word and allow His Spirit to work in their lives, their understanding and attitudes shift, leading to authentic change.
Anyone can experience 'Behavioral Changes’ and yet never be transformed.
External Modifications: Behavioral changes often focus on superficial adjustments in actions.
People might m o d i f y their conduct to fit certain standards or expectations without necessarily addressing the underlying issues.
Lack of Depth: While behavioral changes can be positive, they may not reflect an internal change of heart or mind. For instance, someone might stop certain negative behaviors out of duty rather than genuine transformation.
Temporary and Unstable: Changes that are behaviorally focused may not last if they are not supported by a deeper transformation.
External changes without internal transformation can lead to a continual cycle of conformity rather than genuine growth.
