Do You Have A Solitary Place?Mark 1:35“And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”If you read the verses before and after this one you will find proof that Jesus had been very busy. There were multitudes coming to Him. He had been healing the diseased and those possessed of devils. Everywhere Jesus went there were crowds and the work of ministry. Our verse proves the importance and need of a solitary place of our own. If Jesus saw the need of such a place, how much more should we. The word “solitary” speaks of any place in which there is not people. The word “departed” in our verse lets us know that Jesus made the conscious effort to go to a solitary place. Rising a great while before day speaks to us of the discipline to carry out such a needful plan. We also find that a momentary escape from the crowds was not the only reason Jesus needed a solitary place. He needed a solitary place to pray. Prayer is an important part of our lives, maybe the most important part. What we read here about the life of Jesus goes along with what Jesus taught us in Matthew 6:6 “But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” Jesus did not stay in the solitary place. He did not isolate Himself from others permanently, but He did know that there was a need to depart into a solitary place and pray. Do you see a need in your own life to get away and pray?Do you have a solitary place for prayer?
