Regrets, we all have them, the older we get the more regrets we have. Regrets are a result of bad decisions. Experience brings the wisdom to not repeat the same mistakes that we now regret. This is why so many of us wish, dream, pray, fantasize about going back in time to correct the mistakes we made in our life as well as our loved ones. Obviously, that will not happen! However, the wisdom we gain from the experience of make mistakes does not have to go waste. This would become better known as education. Not schooling, but real life, real world, knowledge about what really happens when you do something stupid, selfish, greedy, foolish, impulsive, venial, hateful, deceptive, coercive, painful or violent instead of what you thought you could get away with. You can’t hide from your own conscious unless you are mentally deranged or you chose to sell your soul to, and possessed by Satan. Normal people have real regrets, but it takes time for wisdom to develop from those bad experiences that pile up the older you get. This makes for the best teachers, instructors, professors, mentors, etc. but only when they start out as morally and ethically grounded to begin with and compassionate enough to feel a burning desire to guide young minds to avoid making the same kind of mistakes that they made. When you see your children making those same mistakes it will hurt both of you. You need to guide your children before they make those mistakes. Anticipate potential problems before they happen. Devise, develop and implement policies and procedures (rules) to try to prevent those mistakes. Of course, children do not always obey their parents. You can help by not only anticipating potential problems and making rules, you should explain what happens when they don’t follow the rules. Detail what they will do, then what others will do about it, how they will then react and what will go wrong, how it will go wrong. They will probably not believe you the first time and go ahead and do what they wanted to do in the first place. After a couple more times, they screw up a realize you actually know what you are talking about and your futuristic predictions amazingly come true, they will start paying attention. The more important the decision they have to make, the more important good advice is to give to children especially as they get older. Even as your children grow into adults you still need to reinforce your experience and wisdom for them.
