SINNERS-SONS-SERVANTS
One of the chief reasons for Christians thinking that they are still sinners is the fact that they fail to focus on the full benefit of Calvary. When Jesus hung on the cross and said, "IT IS FINISHED" (John 19:30), He said plenty. The moment you trusted in His completed work on the cross, you ceased to be a sinner in God's eyes and you became a saint. Otherwise, it wasn't FINISHED.
I handled it this way when answering a recent question at church. At Calvary you were dealt with as a sinner (II Cor. 5:21), today you are dealt with as a son (Heb. 12:4-8), and at the judgment seat of Christ, you will be dealt with as a servant (Luke 16:1-13; I Cor. 3:11-15; II Cor. 5:10). Service, not sin, is the issue at the judgment seat of Christ, because God's judgment on your sins fell on Christ at Calvary. The sin issue is settled, and that's why you are no longer classified as a sinner. Because of Calvary, you are a new creature in Christ, and there are no sinners in Christ. You were a sinner in Adam, but you are made righteous in Christ: "For as by one man's disobedience many were made sinners, so by the obedience of one shall many be made righteous." (Rom. 5:19). If you're in Christ, you are NOT a sinner.
"But in my flesh I still sin!" Yes, and that's why Paul gave you Colossians 2:11:
"In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ."
Please pardon the crudeness, but in a literal circumcision, the actual foreskin is CUT OFF. No one with any brains would still identify themselves with the dead and discarded foreskin! The foreskin isn't YOU; it was PUT OFF from you! So it is with the flesh. It's a BODY OF SIN, and it's not the true believer who now has a standing identity in Christ.
