Who Or What Is Hindering You?Galatians 5:7 “Ye did run well; who did hinder you that ye should not obey the truth?” Have you ever known someone who seemed to be living the Christian life well and something happened that took them away from that life they were living for God. These Galatian believers had entered into the Christian life “by grace through faith” and were running well by faith but something happened that caused some of them to go back and live by law instead of by grace. The word “hinder” means to beat back so that you cannot move forward. This pictures something that is beating you back or keeping you back from obeying God. It pictures one who is allowing someone or something to hold them back from obeying God. Note the next two verses, Galatians 5:8-9 “This persuasion cometh not of him that calleth you. A little leaven leaveneth the whole lump.” This hindrance is not from God and it does not take much to hinder one from fully obeying God (“a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump”). May the Holy Spirit help us to see the things that can hinder our obedience unto God. Don’t you want to fully obey God?
