Judas Iscariot’s story is one of the most sobering warnings in Scripture. He walked with Jesus, heard His voice, saw His miracles, and even served in ministry. Yet, despite being so close to the Light, darkness found a place in his heart.
"Then entered Satan into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve." (Luke 22:3)
Outwardly, he looked like a disciple — he followed Jesus, carried the money bag, and spoke the right words. But inwardly, he was drawn to greed, self-interest, and compromise. The devil didn’t force his way in; he entered through the door Judas left open.
"Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life." (Proverbs 4:23)
We learn from Judas that being near the presence of God is not the same as being transformed by it. Church attendance, service, or even ministry roles cannot replace a heart that is surrendered to Christ. Jesus desires devotion, not mere participation.
"This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me." (Matthew 15:8)
Judas chose silver over the Savior. For a momentary reward, he exchanged eternal truth. It’s a tragic reminder that the enemy still whispers the same temptation today: “Trade your faith for something shiny.”
"For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" (Mark 8:36)
God doesn’t want part of your heart — He wants all of it. A fully surrendered heart is safe from the schemes of the enemy.
"Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." (James 4:8)
