Jesus Knows
John 12:3
“Then took Mary a pound of ointment of spikenard, very costly, and anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped his feet with her hair: and the house was filled with the odour of the ointment.”
Imagine being in the house of Martha, Mary, and Lazarus the day Mary made her way towards Jesus, bowing at His feet, and anointing His feet with pure spikenard. I am sure her act of love and devotion to Jesus would not have gone unnoticed by any in the house. The smell would have been very strong and would have lingered for days. Mary knew why she was doing this and Jesus knew, stating in verse 7, “Let her alone: against the day of my burying hath she kept this.” Judas Iscariot was upset that the very costly spikenard was not sold and the money given to the poor. Judas did not care for the poor. He was at heart a thief, and he bore the treasury for Jesus and the disciples. This Jesus also knew. What I gather here is the truth that Jesus always knows the intentions and motives behind what we do for Him. He knew the heart of both Mary and Judas. And may we never forget He knows our heart as well.
