The Scottish Government has officially rejected Labour’s plan for a compulsory “Brit Card” digital ID — stating it will not support any system that forces citizens to prove who they are to work, rent or access services.
Important context: Scotland has a devolved government, but it still sits under UK law. That means Westminster can overrule Scotland, even if Scotland votes against it.
So while Scotland can make its position clear — it can still be forced to comply.
