HOW MUCH BIBLE TO READ
Beware of anyone (and I mean ANYONE) who tells you how much Bible you are supposed to read daily, weekly, or whatever. While it can be shown from scripture that Bible time should be a daily practice, it cannot be shown HOW MUCH reading or study is required. I believe a great verse for this is Proverbs 25:16:
"Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled therewith, and vomit it."
The word of God is like honey (Psa. 119:103; 19:10; Rev. 10:9-10), so the verse fits well. You simply find what works for you and stick with it. I once heard a preacher say that if you are reading only ten chapters per day, then you are "barely making it." That same preacher ended up committing adultery and is no longer in the ministry. Look out for anyone who attempts to burden you with religious quotas (Mat. 23:4). We are all different, so we all bear the personal responsibilities of making our own choices when it comes to our devotions to God, and that includes how we manage our Bible reading.
As our text says, too much honey can lead to vomiting. You've seen a great deal of that on social media, so why in the world would you want to follow such people? I don't want to vomit; I want God to "feed me with food convenient for me" (Pro. 30:8) and not what belongs on someone else's plate. There's far too much copycat, franchised religion going around and not near enough PERSONAL religion.
How much Bible do I read daily? As much as it takes. As much as it takes to keep my mind spiritually focused. Some days I read a few chapters, some days ten or fifteen chapters, and some days I read nothing because I'm still chewing the cud from the previous day. Do I get through the Bible in a year? Sometimes yes, sometimes no. Why does it matter?
