Pillars
Galatians 2:9
“And when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hands of fellowship; that we should go unto the heathen, and they unto the circumcision.”
The Apostle Paul was going back in his mind to the day that the early church leaders accepted him as an apostle of the Lord, sent unto the Gentiles. He specifically names James, Cephas (or Peter), and John, calling them “pillars” within the church. The word pillar means "column of support which is holding something up." In some buildings there are load bearing pillars put there by design of an engineer to help hold up the building itself. With this thought in mind, what kind of church member would you consider yourself? I read somewhere where a church member is either “a pillar or a caterpillar, you are either helping hold things up or crawling in and out of every church you can find”. Those two descriptions may not be said of every church member but for sure finding pillars within the church is more of a rarity than a common place these days.
Again I ask, what kind of church member would you consider yourself?
