I had to express forgiveness to someone who did a lot of damage to me and my family as a kid. He didn't kill anyone (that I'm aware of). But he caused a lot of pain and suffering for a lot of years and never once expressed any regret for one bit of it. But it lifted a huge weight off of my own conscience when I could tell him I forgave him and that was all in the past. I hope doing it changed him for the better.
