Reproving The Unfruitful Works Of Darkness
Ephesians 5:8-11
“For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)
Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”
As a Christian we are warned in these verses about having fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness. The word fellowship means to be partakers with or to participate with. God warns Christians about being a part of the unfruitful works of darkness, instead we are to reprove them. To reprove is to bring conviction upon by refuting those works.
I think the greatest way of reproving the unfruitful works of darkness is through the light of God’s Word, or using the Bible to show where something is sinful. Verse 13 speaks of this, “But all things that are reproved are made manifest by the light: for whatsoever doth make manifest is light.” It is also a great help to know that we have the aid of the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is truly the great Reprover of the soul. This work is not easy because of what Jesus said in John 3:19 “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
We live in a dark and demented world and more than ever we need to shine the glorious light of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
