No Losses
Philippians 4:18-19
“But I have all, and abound: I am full, having received of Epaphroditus the things which were sent from you, an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God. But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”
The Christians in the church at Philippi had given and sent an offering to the Apostle Paul for the work of God. Paul said that offering was “an odour of a sweet smell, a sacrifice acceptable, wellpleasing to God”.
It was also an offering that secured for them the promise that “God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus”.
I believe there could have been those that gave in this offering who gave all they had. For them their gift was not a loss but a gain. When someone gives to the work of the Lord from a pure heart their gift is not a loss. There are no losses in our sacrificial offerings to the Lord.
2 Corinthians 9:7-8
“Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:”
No Christian who ever gives in a grudgingly way or who gives out of necessity ever gives with a heart full of joy. The one who gives with purpose, that is they give with a willing and a want to give heart, gives with a cheerful heart. Such understand that their gift to the Lord’s work is not a subtraction but an addition. They know that it is not a loss but a gain.
