Why Do People Mistreat Jesus?Luke 22:48 - “But Jesus said unto him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?”John 18:25 - “And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore unto him, Art not thou also one of his disciples? He denied it, and said, I am not.”Judas Iscariot is not the only person to ever betray the Lord Jesus Christ and Peter is not the only follower of Jesus to ever deny Him. While some do not go as far as Judas and Peter did in their mistreatment of the Son of God, I believe I can safely say any mistreatment of Jesus deeply grieves the Father.Why would someone betray or deny Jesus? I believe I have a Biblical answer.Jeremiah 17:9 - “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?”The heart of every human is “deceitful above all things and desperately wicked”. This is a truth about every human that we often forget. Jesus pinpointed mankind’s sin problem in Matthew 15:19 when He said, “For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:” It is out of the heart that evil proceeds, therefore within the heart of man lies the real problem. The shame and hypocrisy is on us if we sing on Sunday,“I will cling to the old rugged cross…” and then go out and betray Him or deny Him by the way we live. The shame and hypocrisy is on us but there must be great sorrow in the heart of Jesus.
