The Talebearer & WhispererProverbs 11:13“A talebearer revealeth secrets: but he that is of a faithful spirit concealeth the matter.”Proverbs 16:28“A froward man soweth strife: and a whisperer separateth chief friends.”In Proverbs 6:16-19 “he that soweth discord among the brethren” is one of “the six things that the LORD doth hate” and also one of the seven things that is an “abomination unto” the LORD. The “talebearer”, is defined as one who walks about telling slander. A “froward man” is defined as one who is perverse in words about another and a “whisperer” is defined as one who murmurs slanderous remarks about others. Such people, as these verses say, are sowers of strife and separate chief friends. I wonder, what motivates these kind of people to do such things? We should be able to agree that such people are definitely not Christlike in their actions. If such actions are found within the church and from one who claims to be a Christian their actions give a poor testimony to Christianity as a whole. Proverbs 11:13 tells us that the one that is of a “faithful (one who supports, upholds) spirit concealeth (to cover) the matter”. I find in my Bible that the biblical approach is found in Proverbs 10:12 “Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sins” and 1 Peter 4:8 “And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.”Maybe people think if they spread gossip and slander it will help.James 5:19-20“Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.”May God have mercy upon the person who can do nothing better with their gift of time than to be a talebearer and slander another person or church.
