Where Is Your Confidence?Hebrews 10:35“Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.”The word “confidence” here speaks of our freedom of speech, or openness or frankness of speech; when it comes to speaking the truths of God’s Word. This confidence comes not from one’s ability or intelligence but is strictly tied in with our faith in the Word of God. A couple of verses that further prove this truth is 2 Corinthians 3:12 - “Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech.” and Ephesians 6:19 - “And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel.”The phrases “great plainness of speech” and “open my mouth boldly” speaks of a confidence in what one is speaking about as it pertains to the Bible. The confidence the Christian carries in his or her beliefs and witness is not in our own words, abilities, or intellect but from the Bible itself. The Bible is the Word of God and therefore it must be the source of our witness, preaching, and teaching. The Word of God is also “the sword of the Spirit” (Ephesians 6:17). The Holy Spirit and the Word of God together carry great power to accomplish the work of God. Through the Word of God and the Holy Spirit the Christian can speak with great confidence. That confidence carries a “great recompense of reward”. I personally believe part of this reward is seeing God use the Word of God to work His will in the believer’s heart.
