Narcissists are crybullies...
A crybully is someone who plays the victim in a situation they themselves created. They twist reality to make it seem like everything is your fault, even when you have done nothing wrong. Every disagreement, every boundary you set, every attempt to communicate honestly becomes an opportunity for them to play the victim. Their tears, their sighs, their dramatic expressions—these are not signs of genuine remorse or vulnerability. They are weapons, carefully deployed to manipulate your emotions, create guilt, and maintain control.
Crybullies thrive on confusion. They make you second-guess yourself, question your memory, and wonder if you are truly at fault. They make you feel responsible for their pain, even though that pain was entirely manufactured. You may find yourself apologizing for things you didn’t do, walking on eggshells to avoid triggering their next “victim” performance, or feeling drained from the constant emotional gymnastics required just to survive interactions with them.
Recognizing a crybully is essential for your own mental and emotional well-being. Understanding that their victimhood is a performance allows you to stop taking it personally, stop trying to fix what they refuse to acknowledge, and reclaim your peace. The key is setting firm boundaries, refusing to be drawn into their manipulative dramas, and remembering that their tears are not about you—they are about control. Over time, this awareness frees you from their toxic cycle and protects you from being trapped in endless guilt, doubt, and emotional exhaustion.
