Nevertheless… God2 Timothy 2:19“Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.”The Apostle Paul has been warning his young student Timothy of the ungodliness and evil days that are to come. Those days have long arrived and are upon us all in full force. “Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure…” We find this word “nevertheless” in the Bible often (97 times) and usually it is against the dark background of the condition of the day. God uses it to turn the picture towards some truth or something better. It means "however" and lets us know there is another side to the scene. Here in our verse we find there is another side to the scene of ungodliness and evil surrounding us. In the midst of it all God’s foundation of truth stands sure! God knows everyone who is His and those who take the name of Christ, who are a Christian, are to depart from iniquity. The truth that we are eternally secure in Christ, is not a reason for the Christian to live carelessly! This world is in a sinful mess, but nevertheless God knows who His children are, and ask that we live holy.Which side of the word "nevertheless" are you living on?
