Genesis 2:1 - Thus the heavens and the earth were f i n i s h e d, and all the host of them.
FINISHED? What does it mean?
Once God f i n i s h e d the creation, there was nothing more that can be done.
(2) Exodus 40:33 - And he reared up the court round about the tabernacle and the altar, and set up the hanging of the court gate. So Moses f i n i s h e d the work.
TABERNACLE: Moses f i n i s h e d the work of all that God told him to do in building of the tabernacle, and the altar. Nothing more can be added to it.
(3) Deuteronomy 31:24 - And it came to pass, when Moses had made an end of w r i t i n g the w o r d s of this l a w in a b o o k, until they were f i n i s h e d,
WORDS OF THE LAW: Moses made an e n d to writing. Nothing more can be added to the law.
(4) John 17:4 - I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.
THE WORK: The w o r k of Jesus was to reveal himself as the M e s s i a h in accordance to the writing of the prophets. Once he did that, there was n o t h i n g more to add to it - I have f i n i s h e d the work.
After Jesus died on the c r o s s, Jesus was the sacrifice. He did the w o r k of salvation. You cannot do the w o r k of salvation.
The w o r k of salvation solely b e l o n g s to Jesus and once he said it is finished, there is nothing more you can add to what he did unless you are a thief and a robber:
John 19:30 - When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is f i n i s h e d: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.
